On top of that we provide a technology platform with APIs for everything from rating, quoting, and issuing policies to customer and claims management.
The Job
The Director of Legal and Compliance will play a critical role in the development and management of Boost’s insurance program partnerships and product development. Reporting directly to the CEO, the candidate will be responsible for leading all corporate and transactional legal responsibilities as well as ensuring legal compliance across every facet of Boost's business including but not limited to: licensing, reporting, auditing, insurance product development, and other regulatory requirements. The Director of Insurtech Partnerships will be responsible for evaluating and structuring partnership opportunities working closely with the Insurance, Technology, and Operations teams as well as external partners and stakeholders. The role requires a hungry, driven, and high-performing  professional with the creative legal mind necessary to responsibly foster innovation in a highly-regulated market.


    • Lead cross-functional internal and external legal/compliance efforts for Boost's technology, insurance, and operations teams as well as its external partners and stakeholders
    • Prepare various types of contracts (e.g. MSAs, SOWs, MGAs, TPAs, SaaS, NDAs) with key external partners, third party vendors/suppliers, and brokers/agents; revise Company’s contract procurement processes by incorporating new data security standards to mitigate privacy risks
    • Advise internal teams on the development and roll out of all new insurance products offered on admitted and surplus lines across all personal and commercial P&C product lines including draft, reviewing, and approving new policy wordings for Boost insurance products
    • Counsel internal team members as well as insurtech partners and other distribution platforms on various insurance regulatory matters including licensing requirements, product development compliance, state filing requirements, privacy and data security issues
    • Lead compliance strategy including market conduct examinations, new product filings, admitted/surplus lines matters, producer licensing, and product development
    • Proactively monitor ongoing development of new laws, rules and regulations in order to reduce regulatory risks
    • Prepare and execute all monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reporting requirements
    • Retain and manage external counsel when necessary
    • Assist in general business operations including licensing, human resources, reporting, accounting, and other compliance needs 

Job Requirements

    • Must have JD from top-tier law school
    • Must have 5-10 years of experience in both P&C insurance transaction and compliance law 
    • Must have knowledge of/experience with insurtech startups and common issues faced in that market, with particular expertise in product/distribution-focused matters
    • Must be willing to relocate to New York full-time
    • Must have creative legal mind willing that is willing to find solutions rather than default to the status quo 
    • Self-starter with the ability to derive need without being told exactly what to do
    • A fun, badass attitude with a desire to build something huge
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Willingness to “get in the weeds” and “get hands dirty” with a “no task is too small” attitude
    • Adept at learning and utilizing new technologies
    • Insatiable intellectual curiosity and creativity
