ABOUT THE ROLE:
Udemy’s Director of Promotional Pricing Strategy and Operations will own promotional pricing strategy within the newly formed pricing team that sits in the larger marketing org and works across the business. Depending on scaling needs, you will build out the promotional pricing strategy team through 2019 and beyond. This team will be tasked with finding and recommending promotional types, levels, frequencies, use cases for various geographies, channels, lifecycle states, ecommerce moments and for various education product types. You will deeply influence Udemy’s marketing and growth strategy.
 
ABOUT YOU:
You will be involved in major monetization initiatives from fine-tuning promotional pricing strategies for the current marketplace, to creating new promotional pricing strategies for markets and products that don’t currently exist.
You are a cross-functional leader and will work seamlessly with Data Science to conduct and own economic and market research to support your work, with product and engineering to build systems to support promotional strategies and finally, with our demand and supply side marketing teams to implement those promotional strategies. You are also comfortable with frequently presenting and sharing your vision with the company in general and with top leadership.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

    • Creating (new, or adapt from existing playbooks) a plethora of promotional pricing strategies and, in collaboration with the Marketing Strategy team, make available to channel owners. Build guardrails for when and how often such strategies can be used
    • Using economic research, competitive research and industry best practices to build use cases for each promotional strategy
    • Collaborating influentially with functional area teams such as lifecycle marketing and marketing channel owners (Email, Paid Acquisition, etc), to drive the promotional pricing decisions for courses and new product features. Work closely Marketing Strategy and  with channel owners to understand precise need and devise promotional pricing strategies for those needs
    • Building out a small team of promotional pricing strategists over Q1-Q3 2019 based on needs. Invest heavily in automation to bolster bandwidth
    • Collaborating closely with Product partners to develop software tools and systems for aforementioned promotions.
    • Collaborating closely with Marketing Strategy along with Product Marketing and Brand to influence messaging strategies that pair well with various promotion strategies
    • Designing, conducting and analyzing tests with special attention to different global circumstances and practices - to add to promotional strategy palette
    • Working within the Pricing Strategy team as the promotional operations expert to translate pricing decisions into clear operational actions; driving communication and working cross-functionally to operationalize
    • Identifying and creating program metrics and dashboards to manage reporting of business performance
    • Delivering training to key stakeholders on promotional policy, changes, and how and when to use which promotions
    • Owning promotional policy documentation ensuring all information is accurate and current
    • Participating in discussions involving global market research, trends and opportunities, competitive landscape, business models and GTM strategies to assist in the development of  business cases
    • Starting with a global macro level strategies, but as 2019 advances, refine strategies to local levels

We’re excited about you because you have:

    • Deep strategy, operations or marketing strategy experience
    • Specific consumer-facing promotional strategy experience (eCommerce/digital goods space is even better!) 
    • Leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
    • Work history demonstrating initiation, execution, and most importantly concluding small and large scale projects
    • Undergrad background in economics (preferred) or other quantitative fields would be very beneficial
    • Project management skills
    • Knowledge of international markets is great, but having the ability to consider and conduct research on different geographies (in a promotional context)
    • Experience building and leading small, high performing teams
    • Familiarity with current economic research in promotional pricing would be amazing, but having the ability and to ingest current research into recommendations
    • Deep familiarity with on-site testing methodologies, lifecycle LTV modeling techniques, analytics
    • Creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and highly organized
    • Passion for online learning, and a desire to create opportunities that will change lives through teaching and learning globally

Nice to haves:

    • Experience with economic modeling
    • An MBA with a focus on marketing strategy
