About the Role

 

Uber is looking for a Director of Business Development to join our Strategic Initiatives / US & Canada BD team. This role will have specific responsibilities for two of our most important Strategic Initiatives - Safety and Driver Loyalty each of which has at least one Business Development Manager focusing on those programs.

 

Successful candidates will bring a dynamic combination of IQ and EQ, an ability to think strategically and execute tactically, and strong interpersonal skills to maximize value in partnership negotiations. We’re looking for someone with a natural ability to inspire and lead an ambitious team.

 

The role will report into the Head of Strategic Initiatives and US/Canada Business Development located in Uber’s HQ in San Francisco. This BD group works closely with Uber’s Product, Policy and Operations groups in creating strategy around core business and product initiatives and then develops and executes partnership deals to help realize those initiatives.

 

Our Driver Strategic initiative includes our recently announced Uber PRO programthat rewards high value drivers for their safe and

 

Our Safety Safety Initiative includes partnerships with technology companies that enable new capabilities in our Rider App such as our 911 Safety feature and we are exploring additional safety features and programs for drivers and riders.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support end-to-end deal processes from strategy development and sourcing to negotiation, implementation, and ongoing partner management
  • Be a “Player-Coach”. You’ll manage a small team but also be expected to execute major deals yourself
  • Work cross-functionally and closely with Uber Product, Operations and Policy leadership to contribute to strategy, align on partnership needs and success criteria.
  • Meet regularly with those cross-functional leaders through formal business reviews
  • Drive individual deal performance accountability by creating clear and measurable goals aligned with the product and business strategy
  • Continuously evaluate performance of the partnership portfolio against business priorities and identify opportunities for further optimization
  • Be accountable for reporting, tracking deal progress and for preparing/presenting formal Deal Reviews
  • Develop and nurture deep relationships with key partners at senior levels and foster a win-win atmosphere

What You’ll Need

 

  • 12+ years of Business Development or related experience establishing and developing senior level relationships. This could include experience in investment banking or management consulting,
  • Experience negotiating, closing and growing commercial partnerships
  • Instinct for deals and partners. You have a proven track record of successfully managing complex, high value partnerships and you’ve cultivated new initiatives from these deals
  • 5 years of internal stakeholder management with product management, engineering, marketing
  • High aptitude and successful track record selling value propositions and deal making
  • Experience managing people and inspiring teams
  • An intuition for people. You are comfortable spending the majority of your time working with various internal and external teams, building and really cultivating new relationships with potential and existing partners and within all parts of an organization. You’re self aware and well-spoken in meetings - you’ll humbly be a voice that speaks for Uber.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and an ability to successfully manage priorities in a highly matrixed, fast-paced organization
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence and collaborate with people at all levels and functions
  • An extremely proactive, self starter mentality with excellent organizational skills
