About the Role
A Security Operations Engineer at Qubole is expected to be strong in multiple domains and provide a significant contribution to security, operations effectiveness and help identify and solve challenges that would impact security wherever possible. Security Operations Engineers are expected to develop elegant solutions to potentially complex business problems and apply technology solutions while following best practices. Security Operations Engineers must foster constructive dialog and see resolution when confronted with various views.
Security Operations Engineers are expected to constantly seek opportunities for process improvement. Successful candidates should have familiarity of all, and a deep understanding of at least two of the following four subject areas: Security Tools/Concepts, Cloud (AWS/Azure), Software Development (Python), and Operational Automation.
Help to develop anomaly detection dashboards and reports to identify potential threats, suspicious activity, and intrusions.
Monitor for security indicators by correlating and analyzing a variety of application, network and host-based security logs and determining the correct remediation actions and escalation paths for each incident.
Assist with the development of processes and procedures to improve security operations functions, incident response times, and analysis of incidents.
Create repeatable processes for continuous testing and monitoring of IOCs following a proven methodology you help define.
Develop scripts, processes and content to improve detective capabilities.
Develop/Improve tools to automate the deployment, administration, and monitoring of a large-scale services on AWS and Azure.
Work with engineering teams (Specifically Ops, Infra, Tools) to harden, enhance, document, establish processes and generally improve the security of our systems.
Work with other teams to guide security best practices in design and implementation of enterprise grade software.
Ability to write scripts/code using Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash, or an equivalent tech, at a level that supports automation of tasks
Understanding of how UNIX/Linux systems work (privilege escalation, persistence, lateral movement)
Understanding basic host and network Incident Response and tasks around incident handling
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, security tools and practices (e.g. IDS, other 3rd party security tools and products)
Ability to both work independently with minimal direction and to collaborate effectively with local and remote teams with a strong customer focus
Experience working in a large cloud or Internet software company preferred
5+ years experience or a combination of formal degree in a relevant field and 2+ years experience in Cloud Operations, DevOps, SiteOps/SRE, UNIX/Linux Administration or Security Engineering.
