About the role


The Senior Mechanical Engineer’s role is to work the optical and electrical engineers to create opto-mechanical assemblies for state of the art LiDAR systems.  They will focus on quickly bringing industry-leading sensing technology to the world while also playing a key role in developing the next generation of sensors to power self-driving.  Their work will directly contribute to the success of self-driving technology, and help to create a more inexpensive, efficient, and safer world.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead development of ATG designed opto-mechanical parts and assemblies for LiDAR development
  • Work closely with various teams (Electrical Engineering, V&V, Optics, etc.) to ensure that mechanical design meets engineering and product needs
  • Coordinate prototype and production release testing and drive resolution of issues
  • Lead and participate in design reviews of key subsystems
  • Lead change control efforts to ensure component functionality
  • Support product launches

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience developing complex electromechanical and/or optomechanical products
  • Significant CAD design experience, such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, and/or Creo
  • Strong technical depth in the development of highly reliable products for use in harsh environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex environment under challenging timing constraints
  • Results oriented, experienced launching technical projects into series production
  • Experience working with suppliers and external partners
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Willing to travel

Bonus Points If

  • Graduate level education in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Two (2) or more years of experience at a startup company
  • Eight (8) or more years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Knowledge of LiDAR, camera, and/or radar product development
  • Experience in structural, thermal, and vibration analysis, and performance and durability testing
  • Design for six sigma
  • FMEA, fault tree analysis, and/or similar experience
  • Experience in quality management
