About the Role


Here at Lending Club as a Principal Software Engineer for Marketing Technology (this role is part of product engineering), you’ll work on developing the infrastructure that will drive leads into our platform that’s offering more affordable credit to borrowers and better rates to investors. We’re looking for a talented engineer who is interested in setting the bar for quality, coding standards, maintainability, availability, resiliency, performance, and security; someone who is passionate about helping borrowers and investors achieve their financial goals. The product engineering team moves fast, celebrates great ideas, inspires testing and learning, and stretches for new solutions.



What You'll Do


  • Work with Marketing and Product Management to understand requirements. 
  • Make pragmatic technology recommendations. Research new technologies and prototype new ideas.  
  • Design, implement and document new software components.  
  • Ensure high testability and quality of delivered software.  
  • Proactively push for instrumentation that enables production troubleshooting. 
  • Lead large projects. 
  • Full ownership of system/component from development to production. 
  • Improve existing software as well 
  • Lead, coach, and mentor other software engineers.    




  • Owner for data collection across enterprise website 

  • Work with marketing stakeholders to define website success metrics, and design tracking solutions that support business goals 

  • Design and develop website data layer to act as a source of truth for page properties, user attributes, and behavior 

  • Develop patterns/best practices for other developers to interact with the data layer, including adding third-party services/data 

  • Integrate data layer with analytics and other digital marketing tools 

  • Develop reports and assist with ad-hoc analysis 

  • Create a strategy for joining website data with CRM/proprietary data 

  • Maintenance/administration of Analytics, Tag Management, and other Marketing Technology tools 



About You


  • Expert Front End development skills, JavaScript, AJAX, and DOM 

  • Configuring and using Website Analytics Tools and Tag Management Systems (e.g.: GA, Tealium) 

  • Implementing and using A/B Testing and Optimization Platforms (e.g.: Optimizely, Adobe Target, etc.) 

  • Working with agile methodology, test-driven development, source control management, and automated testing 

  • Version-control and build automation tools (e.g.: Grunt, Gulp) 

  • Automated browser testing frameworks (e.g.: CasperJS) 

  • Passion for protecting PII (security is in your DNA!) 

  • Ability to deliver high quality work in a fast-paced environment 

  • Solving problems is your passion 

  • You possess superb communication skills 

  • Able to identify tech debt and make recommendations of reduction 

  • Actively participates in team design discussions and architectural decision 

  • Comfortable with failure. A fearless experimenter who views mistakes as learning points.


Preferred Experience & Qualities:

  • Cloud data warehousing (Redshift, BigQuery) 

  • Business intelligence and visualization tools (Tableau, Google Data Studio) 

  • Passion for Marketing Technology/Analytics with an understanding of the ROI it drives 

  • Statistical analysis and predictive modeling 

  • You have strong database skills 

  • Self-motivated teammate who excels in a reciprocal environment. (This is the place to take initiative and ask intelligent questions!) 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field of study
