Minted is looking for a Creative Director, Merchandise & Design to join our team to lead assortment selection and merchandise design for our businesses, with a strong emphasis on our stationery businesses (holiday cards, wedding stationery, birth announcements, and more), for which Minted is known worldwide.  This role will have full responsibility for how the Minted brand is expressed through our product. Taking into account our crowdsourcing data and in close partnership with our Merchants and our Head of Crowdsourcing, s/he determine product assortments and guide design development that will not only drive sales, but raise the bar from a design and aesthetic point of view and represent the fact that Minted’s brand is completely centered around the best in product design. This individual will thrive in a fast paced environment, understanding the need to be agile and align to retail business needs. S/he is always looking to learn from others, open to new models and the disruption that technology is creating in the world of design, adept at navigating both strategic information and minute details, and ensures both are understood by a broader team. Importantly, this person loves guiding a team and also enjoys maintaining their creative skills by occasionally being hands on with design work.
This position reports initially to the Founder and CEO of Minted, Mariam Naficy.

You will:

    • Review and approve merchandise assortments from both a commercial AND a design perspective, never sacrificing design quality for sales potential.
    • Provide design feedback and comments to our community of independent designers.
    • Select aspects of our products and accessories where we utilize an internal design process, lead these processes and teams.
    • Raise the bar and take our assortment to the next level, continuously pushing Minted to the highest design bar possible.
    • Become a champion of the artist community, both identifying and promoting emerging talent and fostering existing relationships to ensure a healthy design community.
    • Join the CEO and Founder in being a key champion for design across the company.
    • Develop and mentor colleagues by communicating clearly, providing valuable feedback, and developing training.

You are:

    • Designed obsessed, you have your finger on the pulse of what is happening/trending in the world of design.
    • Passionate around developing creative talent, you are a people person who cares deeply and takes a vested interest in nurturing talent.
    • Incredibly passionate about stationery, typefaces, and graphic design.
    • Able to identify gaps in assortments and proactively suggest solutions.

You have:

    • BFA, Graphic Design (required).
    • 10+ years experience in fashion or other design-driven consumer goods or retail, in one of these functional areas: product design, product development, sourcing, merchandising.
    • Experience in recruiting and leading a team of creatives.
    • Deep product development and design experience.
    • Deep love for empowering creatives, building community, and helping fellow creative people.
    • Strong background in graphic design, with a passion for typography.
    • Exceptional design eye and taste.
    • The ability to manage both up and down, think big picture and understand how to execute.
    • A strong merchandising sense, even if you haven’t been a merchant before - ability to inhabit the skin of different kinds of buyers, imagine different segments, and create holistic assortments that are not just geared towards one's own tastes, but many others.
