About the Role

Udemy is looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant that will be a key part of the general ledger and revenue accounting functions of the Company and will be crucial in laying a solid foundation for our audit ready close and internal controls processes. This position will be hands on, developing revenue close process and other close related processes and procedures. Interaction and coordination with colleagues in Sales, Revenue Operations, FP&A, Tax and various other departments across the Company to ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate financial results. The Senior Accountant will be a key role in the Finance organization around process improvement and system implementations.
About You

This role will be all about rolling up your sleeves and diving into all activities associated with accounting, reporting, internal controls and compliance, with a particular focus on revenue accounting for our enterprise business UFB. You are a process minded person with high attention to detail and sense of urgency. You possess a strong collaborative approach and are able to build effective relationships with colleagues in Sales, Revenue Operations, GL Accounting, Legal and other cross-functional departments. You take initiative and can work in a dynamic environment across multiple levels of management and across functions and geographies with minimal supervision. 

Here's What You'll Be Doing:

    • Manages and owns the reconciliation and accounting for enterprise subscription (Udemy for Business – UFB) revenue
    • Perform technical revenue accounting analysis on new and existing business arrangements in accordance with ASC 606
    • Establishes and enhances revenue accounting process to ensure financial statement accuracy
    • Works with commissions team to calculate commission payments on revenue arrangements and works to capitalize commission payments in accordance with ASC 606, to the extent necessary
    • Design and implement business processes with sound internal controls to ensure efficiency and compliance
    • Reviews monthly financial statements and performs variance and fluctuation analysis and investigates differences; supports the FP&A team on explaining results
    • Communicates accounting results by explaining variances and anomalies in account balances
    • Prepares audit schedules 
    • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures 
    • Ad-hoc projects, financial reporting and analysis as needed 
    • Policy and procedures development and documentation 
    • Engages with external auditors as needed 

We’re Excited About You Because You Have:

    • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance.
    • Certified Public Accountant credentials required.
    • 2-4 years relevant experience in accounting, preferably in a position holding similar responsibilities.
    • Public accounting and public company experience preferred.
    • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and accepted accounting standards and local reporting requirements in various countries.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation and informal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to work across many departments with varying levels of staff and management to solve problems and achieve results.
    • Highly detail-oriented with excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
    • Strong analytical skills, efficient, self-motivated with the ability to follow through and implement process improvement.
