Description

The Director of Engineering works alongside technology and product leadership to ship a high quality, engaging digital coaching platform using technologies and engineering processes. This role is crucial in continuing to build and sustain a world class engineering culture - one which provides team members open and supportive leadership and a clear path for growth both personally and as a group.

Objectives

    • Provide executive leadership with KPI data around engineering team effectiveness
    • Identify and mitigate bottlenecks in the Product -> Engineering pipeline
    • Work with engineering leads to identify and implement ways to increase efficiency and accountability in the SDLC process
    • Collaborate across departments in conjunction with Product leadership to help identify areas for platform improvement
    • Take a data & measurement based approach to evaluating the success/failure of new features and enhancements
    • Take part in regular agile rituals (standups, sprint planning/retro, technical feasibility analysis)
    • Mentor engineers, have regular 1:1 meetings with all direct reports
    • Act as gatekeeper, ensuring all features and enhancements are built to a high standard
    • Work closely with the Tech-Ops team to ensure that the Torch platform is well tested, technically scalable and supportable

Competencies

    • 5+ years of software engineering experience, plus a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other STEM area
    • 5+ years leading an agile software development team
    • Masterful group facilitation
    • A growth mindset
    • Unwavering attention to detail
    • Understanding of up-to-date software engineering tools and processes (git flow, CI/CD, AWS, JIRA)
    • Broad knowledge of design patterns necessary for highly scalable, distributed architecture and responsive user interface
    • Experience working with product teams, negotiation of requirements entry criteria and the definition of "done"
