Senior Market Researcher at Udemy

The Udemy research team is looking to hire a Market Researcher. In Udemy’s insights-driven culture, researchers play a key role in leading and inspiring initiatives that further our mission of improving lives through learning.  Our goal is to ensure each department has the right insights to develop innovative products and messaging that resonates with our customers.
 
About You:
We’re looking for someone who is incredibly hungry, passionate, smart, fun, scrappy and generally awesome to help us achieve that objective. This particular role will primarily focus on market research, but work closely with the product researchers and other functions.  The responsibilities will include conducting primary and secondary research, and clearly communicating actionable insights to a wide range of stakeholders.

Here's What You'll Be Doing:

    • Manage research projects from kick-off and recruitment to effective communication of the synthesized key findings to internal stakeholders.  There may be some work with vendors, but we are looking for someone that can execute primary research themselves.
    • Deftly manage cross-team dynamics and internal stakeholder relationships to prioritize high-impact research projects
    • Conducting primary and secondary research 
    • Collaborate with qualitative researchers and data scientists when appropriate
    • Act as the primary researcher for our Marketing and Marketplace Operations teams

You will answer questions like:

    • How to identify target markets internationally that present strong opportunities for Udemy's growth?
    • How effectively does our advertising inform visitors about Udemy?
    • What are the unique needs of buyers and influencers considering our Udemy for Business platform?
    • How can we leverage app notifications to encourage richer interactions between instructors and learners? 
    • What new areas of content expansion should we invest in? What would resonate most with students in different markets?

We’re Excited About You Because You Have:

    • At least 5 years of applied research experience, with at least 3 years in a market research role OR a relevant graduate degree (statistics, marketing, sociology, etc.) and with at least 3 years of market research experience 
    • Solid foundation in quantitative research methods, including expertise in survey design, fielding, analysis, and statistical testing
    • Proficiency with a data analysis tool (SPSS, R, Python, etc.) 
    • Working knowledge of SQL 
    • Experience applying research to marketing and product decisions 
    • Previous experience with brand, advertising, and market research (e.g., brand equity tracking, campaign effectiveness, choice modeling, pricing testing)
    • Familiarity with a broad range of qualitative approaches
    • Experience working with vendors
    • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication
    • A passion for developing world-class experiences
    • An interest in education and economic opportunity 

Extra points for:

    • Proficiency in another language, cross-cultural fluency, and a global perspective
    • Experience with product research / UX research
    • Experience with other quantitative research methods
    • Expertise in education or edtech
