About the Role

The Systems Lead will be responsible for leading the development of -based models, serving both Uber Elevate and JUMP functions, with a focus on understanding total cost of ownership of a vehicle basis throughout its life, as can be impacted by the vehicle powertrain.

What You'll Do

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of relative vehicle system costs to help prioritize efforts
  • Develop models of battery and powertrain, with initial focus on largest cost drivers
  • Of notable interest:
    • Efficiency
    • Thermals, as needed
    • Controls
    • Efficiency
    • Abstraction of magnetics
    • Thermals
  • Drivetrain performance
    • Cell and battery performance
    • Cell and battery degradation
    • Inverter performance
    • Motor performance
  • Work with other simulation and data science teams to understand and develop design cases
  • Work on or with other teams to understand spatiotemporal fleet dynamics
  • Drive architectural decisions based on simulation results
  • Develop cost tradeoff metrics for various engineering tradeoffs to help guide design teams

What You'll Need

  • B.S. in engineering discipline
  • 5+ years model and simulation experience in batteries
  • Experience in modeling powertrains
  • Strong knowledge of MATLAB / Simulink
  • Priority-based focus. Ability to understand what matters to inform efforts
  • Strong math, physics and analog systems fundamentals
  • Solid controls experience
  • System level thinker. From battery to vehicle fleet.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience leading a team in multi-system simulation efforts
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bonus: Experience in spatiotemporal simulation
