About the Role
This person will have a key role in developing the battery safety program at Uber, and in how our teams in the field respond to failures and safety situations. They will work to validate our new battery packs, and those of our partner organizations and work with the central operations teams to minimize the impacts of safety incidents in the field. The successful candidate will dissect tested battery packs and cells, and provide additional learnings beyond the data from the test from their expertise.
What You'll Do
Support the safety testing of Jump packs and Elevate prototypes
Design new safety tests, and consider how they can be included inside an overall evaluation of system performance
Communicate testing needs and results clearly with other stakeholders, and stand for the safety of the battery system at all times
Work with sites and central operations to communicate safety needs and safety strategies
Respond to field incidents, and produce detailed FA reports as part of determining root cause and scale
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years of experience in a relevant technical field (e.g. EE, ME, CS, Failure Analysis)
3+ years of experience in the failure analysis field, with the failure analysis of batteries being an advantage
Strong battery fundamentals, experienced with the destructive failure of battery packs
- Excellent experimental design skills
- Capable of designing tests for safety, and taking data around destructive tests with smoke, flame and potential projectiles
