Description

Opendoor is seeking a highly organized, business-oriented Commercial Counsel with deep expertise negotiating a broad range of commercial and technology agreements.  In this role, you will work closely with Opendoor’s procurement team and other key business units to lead the review, negotiation, and signing of a large volume of contracts.

You will:

      • Review and negotiate commercial agreements and technology transactions for IT, infrastructure, engineering, marketing, recruiting, and vendors; including SaaS, managed services, employee benefits, software and technology licenses, master services, national supplier, marketing, non-disclosure, joint venture, and data processing/sharing agreements.
      • Lead and manage complex contract negotiations, in coordination with other legal subject matter experts, procurement professionals, and business stakeholders.
      • Provide practical and focused advice to Opendoor’s business teams on relevant legal concepts, issues and risks, agreement structures, approval processes, and company policies and procedures relating to signing authority.
      • Help manage, develop and improve upon existing template and form documents, contract negotiation playbooks, clause libraries, and related processes and knowledge-management initiatives.
      • Respond promptly to the demands of a growing and active business and educate internal clients on matters relating to contract processes, and working with the Legal team generally.
 

Qualifications:

    • JD, and member of member of the California Bar (in good standing) or eligible to register as a California Registered In-House Counsel.
    • At least 7-8 years commercial transactions experience in a major law firm, an in-house legal department, or a combination of both; start-up experience is a plus.
    • Demonstrated experience leading complex deal negotiations, working with a wide variety of transaction documents and multiple internal stakeholders.
    • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to solving problems and developing creative processes - you see a problem or issue, you attack it head-on.
    • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a growing legal team and cross-functionally with members at all levels of the organization.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a team-oriented attitude.
    • Comfort with voicing views independently and respectfully.
    • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks effectively and independently.
