Opendoor is looking for a driven, independent, and highly-capable individual to join the Corporate Accounting team in San Francisco. The Corporate Accounting team is responsible for accounting related to areas such as Leases, Accruals, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, Corporate spend, Payroll and Expense Reporting.  In addition, this team led the integration of the accounting systems of our recent acquisition, Open Listings, and is responsible for the integration of Open Listings' ongoing financial results into Opendoor’s consolidated financial reporting. The Corporate Accounting team also prepares and presents Market-Level reporting for internal stakeholders and partners closely with the Finance and Strategy, Marketing and Home Experience teams to allocate expenditures to the appropriate markets.  The Senior Accountant will partner on projects to support the areas above, and perform various ongoing and month-end procedures throughout many of the areas under the responsibility of the Corporate Accounting team.

What you'll do

    • Perform month-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries, creating new journal entry templates and processes as needed, identifying and calculating accruals, reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing supporting schedules
    • Identify and implement process improvements to help reduce time to close and automate manual tasks
    • Partner with the Open Listings’ Controller to analyze business performance and risks
    • Collaborate with the Finance and Strategy team to streamline accounting data and reports used to analyze trends in corporate spend
    • Assist our Technical Accounting team in implementing the new ASC 842 lease accounting standard
    • Work with the Corporate Real Estate team to track new office locationsand perform related lease accounting
    • Work cross-functionally with Operations, IT, and Workplace teams to improve the fixed asset tracking process
    • Design, document, and implement controls and policies to support the company as it scales
    • Assist with Opendoor's financial statement audit and financial statement preparation

What you'll bring

    • Degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 2+ years at a publicly traded company or high growth private company
    • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP
    • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills
    • A desire to work in a fast growing and agile business
    • Clear and concise communication skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment, including teammates in other locations
    • Resourcefulness, pragmatism and motivation to get things done
    • Ability to meet deadlines, self-motivate and independently manage time
    • A hardworking and intellectually curious mindset, to effectively problem solve in a dynamic environment
    • Enthusiasm for being part of a company changing the real estate industry!


    • Licensed CPA or CPA candidate
    • Experience working in a SOX control environment
