We’re seeking an exceptional Senior Technical Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team to support our fast-growing business in San Francisco! The ideal candidate will have an inclination for conducting accounting research, assisting operational teams in implementing the results of their research, and preparing financial statements and related disclosures.  This role will assist the Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager with accounting research, managing internal and external financial reporting requirements, updating and maintaining the Company’s accounting policies, and adopting new accounting standards.   The Senior Technical Accountant will also be responsible for all accounting related to the Company’s employee equity program and other equity transactions.

As an Opendoor Technical Accountant you will:

    • Research and document the accounting treatment for new transactions and business initiatives. 
    • Assist with the preparation of the audited financial statements and footnotes.
    • Assist in the coordination of the financial statement audit by working closely with our independent auditors.
    • Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards. 
    • Draft and maintain accounting policies and procedures. 
    • Prepare select journal entries for technical/ad hoc transactions. 
    • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations for all equity transactions
    • Work cross functionally with finance, legal and other business partners to gather information and advise on accounting considerations.


    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance
    • Current Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate
    • Three or more years of accounting experience, including Big 4 accounting firm experience 
    • Eager to learn and excited about technical accounting and financial reporting
    • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple complex projects 
    • Desire to work in a fast growing and agile business
    • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
    • Enjoys working in a team environment
    • Strong communication and time management skills


    • Real estate industry experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Excel
