Monitoring Engineer, Appriss Health

The Monitoring Engineer has the responsibility for the creation and refinement of Monitoring Service policies, system software and infrastructure monitoring of Appriss and other production systems and infrastructure.  Analyze, implement and transform operational and/or functional needs into solutions while remaining compliant with regulations, SLAs, and policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • College degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 5-7 years professional level experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communicative skills and a sense of ownership.
  • Engage in and improve the lifecycle of services – from inception and design, through development, operation and refinement.
  • Work with Operations and development teams to understand improvement, new feature and enhancement requirements for the monitoring development teams to implement.
  • Champion Monitoring processes and tools. Ensure that Monitoring principles, processes and tools are established and adhered to. Encourage teams to use them by demonstrating best practice as well as training and information dissemination to other stakeholders.
  • Analyze technical architecture of systems and applications to understand dependencies, points of failure, impacts, and external and internal interfaces, to provide monitoring recommendations for system and infrastructure and time estimates.
  • Provide outreach activities to Development and Operations teams to diagnose and facilitate resolution of monitoring bugs/issues.
  • Engineer monitoring capabilities to meet performance, security, high availability and other requirements.
  • Add new monitoring agents and decommission agents as part of the server provisioning process.
  • The ability to analyze and understand complex technical systems built from many separate software and hardware components, specifically web application architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of application, and system software monitoring principles and practice. Some knowledge of infrastructure monitoring principles and practice.

Essential Skills

  • The ability to communicate and influence different development and operations teams over monitoring priorities and managing competing interests across stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively with 3rd party and internal service providers who manage the application, system software and production or distribution infrastructure on Appriss’ behalf.
  • Excellent documentation skills with experience of creating support documentation for users and the Operations Team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills - Must have the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience managing, supporting and deploying network infrastructures.

  • Experience with Disaster Recovery plans and related technologies.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
