With hundreds of millions of consumers navigating from intent to purchase through our products, our partners’ businesses are growing rapidly, and at this scale we need the best data systems to build the best products for our customers. As a Data Product Manager, you will work with engineers, designers and data scientists to build a richer understanding of users, context and intent across the Button ecosystem, and apply this understanding to solve some of our most complex problems including showing users more relevant offers, keeping our users and customers safe on our platform, and providing actionable insights for our business partners to design better mobile shopping experiences.


    • Lead the creation of our data strategy and vision, deciding on large bets Button should invest in to drive step change impact for our products
    • Shape the direction of Button’s core products by applying the best machine learning innovations and technologies to power our personalization initiatives
    • Define how the organization will gather and use data and analytics to deliver great customer experiences
    • Build new ML models, services and platforms to operate at the scale of the world’s largest data sets
    • Accelerate the learning and executing of all our product teams through experimentation and prototyping
    • Establish a high bar in running conclusive experiments quickly to validate hypotheses
    • Lead and help mentor a team of engineers, data scientists, data analysts and designers


    • BS in Engineering, Mathematics or other technical field
    • 5+ years of experience in data science, engineering or product management, preferably for a web or mobile company
    • Experience applying ML technologies to search, pricing, matching or personalization engines
    • Experience running conclusive experiments to validate hypotheses
    • Experience defining and tracking success metrics
    • Experience communicating technical topics and insights to audiences technical and non-technical
    • Experience building new AI/ML technologies, a plus
    • Experience building pricing, search, matching, personalization engines, a plus
    • Experience with two- (or three-) sided marketplaces, a plus


      • Guillaume Orain, Director of Product Management: Prior to Button, Guillaume built the programmatic platform at FreeWheel from zero to powering hundreds of millions of ad views through billions of decisions a day for the world’s largest video companies. Out of college, Guillaume co-founded a mobile video recognition startup that was later acquired to join some of the original Google Goggles team members in building a browser for the physical world.
      • Brad Groff, Director of Data: Brad is the head of the Data team at Button. Before joining us, he ran data science and data engineering at Ordergroove, and managed data science teams at Capital One and Booz Allen Hamilton. In his free time, he can be found engaging in lengthy discussions with his daughter on topics such as which colors are his favorite colors and why, how some monsters can be nice and others can be mean (but sometimes just because they're hungry), and which things are the silliest things.
      • Jonathan Shottan, Chief Product Officer: Prior to Button Jonathan lead various product divisions at Pinterest, Facebook and a few smaller startups. All of which led him to Button. Jonathan served in the Peace Corps right out of college and lived in The Gambia, Africa.
      • Rachel Rodden, Product Designer: Rachel joined Button in August 2018 as a product designer. She loves user research, design thinking and most importantly simple design. Less IS more. When not working, she can be found desperately wanting a dog, doing yoga, trying new restaurants and doing crafty diy projects .. (ask her what she’s currently working on).
      • James (or Jimmy) McGill, VP of Engineering: Hailing formerly from both Australia and Google, he spends his weekends hiking, surfing and designing and building furniture. See James for all of your Vegemite needs.
    • Daniel Lee, Product Manager: Prior to Button, Dan led Ads & Monetization at Tumblr and has worked at smaller startups such as Vroom and Ampush. Dan loves all things data (particularly anything that has to do with ML), basketball, biking, skiing, and building furniture.
