Celona is seeking a highly skilled research engineer to work on design and development of our next generation 5G end-to-end solution including RAN, core network, edge compute and service orchestration. In this role, you will be working with highly skilled engineers, product managers and other peers. You will also be involved in the solution design from the conceptual stages through the development cycle and deployments. You will contribute to design and develop of a new AI-driven wireless network operations paradigm for customers of our industry-first converged wireless edge platform.




·       Design technology features and system architecture for a 5G end-to-end solution including RAN and 5GC

·       Design and development of core network architectures enabling neutral host and roaming between private 5G network and macro cellular networks

·       Research and development of novel solutions for optimizing end-to-end application performance of private 5G networks with features including network slicing, edge compute and AI-driven wireless network operations

·       Research and development in operation of 4G LTE and 5G NR/NR-U in shared and unlicensed spectrum bands such as CBRS or 6GHz bands

·       Participate and contribute to standards and industry organization such as 3GPP, CBRS Alliance, IEEE, 5G ACIA as needed

·       Play a leading role in developing patent and IP portfolio with an eye towards inventions that leapfrog existing technical approaches in the marketplace

·       Work closely with the production software team to architect your models for efficient integration into a production environment

Work with product management and internal stakeholders on long term product strategy balanced against near term requirements


·       Ability for choosing the best-fitting technique for data at hand from a repertoire of advanced machine learning techniques (like CNN, RNN, LSTM, Deep RL) and classical machine learning tools (nonlinear regression, support vector machines, random forests, and ARIMA)

·       Intuition into computational performance and parallelizability of models for translating designs into scalable implementations and trading accuracy for efficiency when needed

·       Strong team player capable of working in a demanding start-up environment

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a keen eye for extracting a signal from large data sets

·       Ability to autonomously plan and organize your work assignments based on the objectives of the team

Desired Qualifications


·       Solid understanding of 5G NR networks and the architectural concepts

·       5+ years of work experience with cellular networks – 4G LTE, 5G, RAN, Core (EPC/5GC), 3GPP

·       Good understanding or background in wireless communication systems and wireless radio technology

·       Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills

·       Knowledge of spectrum allocation problems and the status of spectrum allocations worldwide is also a plus

·       Knowledge and experience in ML/AI especially deep learning areas is a plus



    • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with relevant coursework in communications and networking
