A Connections Data Scientist for AI Labs (Artificial Intelligence) will work closely with Connections scientists to ensure that research ideas from the Core are delivered effectively to Uber product teams. They will get to know the details of the data structures at Uber and work to integrate AI Labs scientists with Uber data and workflows.
Requirements for the Role
The role requires:
Excellent technical skills including:
Demonstrated competency in a highly technical quantitative field from Operations Research, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a similar field.
Demonstrated ability to make ML models work in practice.
Ability to retrieve, process, and manipulate large data sources in an efficient and effective manner.
Ability to analyze results of machine learning models and diagnose what steps are needed to improve their performance
Strong programming experience:
Must be expert in Python
Strongly preferred to have experience with ML frameworks (TF, PyTorch, etc.)
One or more object-oriented programming language (e.g. C++, Java, Python)
Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, SQL), big data platform.
Candidate must be able to liaison between scientists and product engineers. This will require the ability to clearly explain how complex models work and what their benefits / drawbacks are.
Also, candidate must have a good grasp on the delicacies involved with collaborating with product engineers and data scientists whose priorities may differ from that of AI Labs.

Be able to acquire and process the necessary data from Uber’s data stores
Communicate and work closely with Connected product teams
Successfully deliver trained proof of concept models for our Connections projects
Communicate Engineering issues with in-production models
