Description

Working at Button is one of the most fun, fulfilling, and challenging experiences you'll have - and it's one of the reasons why we were voted one of the best places to work in NYC

Button’s mission is to be the abstraction point for mobile commerce. Today we work with some of the largest and most interesting businesses in the world, connecting customers through higher-quality, better-performing user experiences. We build software with a strong bias towards stability and reliability, but ensure we balance this with curiosity and a willingness to experiment and take risk.

As an Infrastructure Software Engineer, you’ll focus on the technologies and systems that provide the foundation on which the rest of our technology is built. You’ll join us in an exciting time if challenges of growth and scale interest you: We serve and process several billion requests and datapoints per month, and the security and data privacy, global latency, and availability of our infrastructure is a direct determinant of the success of our business. While honing your craft on these types of problems, you’ll have close exposure to product and business challenges, and collaborate with counterparts across engineering.

You will…

    • Build and evolve Button’s core production environments. You’ll improve the way our teams use cloud infrastructure, and apply your domain expertise to availability and scalability challenges in product design.
    • Collaborate with other engineers and product managers to develop major new products. You’ll be the infrastructure expert on the team, taking responsibility for any new data storage systems or other backend needs called for by the product.
    • Plan ahead of the next phase of growth at Button. We strive to have a mystery-free production environment, and a quiet pager; you’ll be a force for keeping it that way even in the face of major increases in scale and major new products.

You have…

    • Strong experience building and debugging backend infrastructure. Ideally you have built and scaled large distributed systems or high-availability products.
    • Experience writing high quality, well-tested code.You’ll be coding and shipping new services on a regular basis. Experience in Go,NodeJS or Python - our major programming languages - is a plus.
    • An eye for reliability, simplicity, failure modes, and good monitoring techniques. You should be able to identify risks in a design or production change, and apply your judgement to balance trade-offs.
