About this Role:
As a Senior Engineering Manager of our Marketing Platform Engineering team, you will lead and build a scalable platform and sub systems that support the growth of Udemy business.  This role requires a thorough knowledge of what it takes to develop scalable, extensible technology, as well as develop and growing a customer-oriented engineering team. This role presents a significant intellectual, technical and operational challenge.


    • Work closely with cross-functional partners to understand, refine and translate requirements to scalable solutions that support business initiatives
    • Lead a team of engineers to identify approach, architect technical designs and build solutions that are reliable, scalable and maintainable
    • Build a high performance engineering team.  Hire, coach and mentor individual contributors.  Set clear, measurable goals for team and individuals
    • Execute sprint plans, communicate project status and driving team to meet the deliverables
    • Drive innovation and set directions.  Propose ideas, projects or recommend system improvements to support the growth of business
    • Foster collaborations and culture of continuous Engineering excellence
    • Contribute to codebase, fix bugs and implement features

Experience & Qualifications:

    • B.S. degree or higher in computer science, engineering or related technical fields
    • 5+ years of engineering management experience, with a proven track record building robust, scalable, distributed systems solutions for customer-centric products
    • 8+ years of software engineering experience
    • Deeply technical with track record of successful product delivery as an individual contributor and a leader
    • Execution experience in fast-paced environments and performance-driven culture
    • Good record of hiring strong technical team members
    • Software development background in object-oriented programming, web application development using various open-source technologies such as: Python/Django, React/Mobx, ES6, Redis, and MySQL
